At Reliance’s 48th AGM, Mukesh Ambani unveiled Reliance Intelligence, an AI joint venture backed by Meta and Google. Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai joined virtually to announce major AI investments and partnerships for India.
Mumbai, Aug 29 — In a landmark move at the 48th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries, Chairman Mukesh Ambani brought Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google CEO Sundar Pichai onto the same stage—virtually—to unveil Reliance Intelligence, a new AI company set to transform India’s digital future.
The wholly owned Reliance subsidiary is designed to bring AI “everywhere and for every Indian”, echoing Ambani’s 2016 Jio revolution. Backed by Meta (Facebook) and Google, the initiative will invest heavily in gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centers, AI education at scale, and enterprise solutions rooted in Indian needs.
“Jio delivered digital for every Indian. Now, Reliance Intelligence will deliver AI for every Indian,” Ambani said.
Meta + Reliance: $100M India-Focused AI Joint Venture
Meta and Reliance are forming a new India-first AI joint venture with an initial investment of ₹855 crore ($100M). Meta holds a 30% stake in the new venture, which aims to build scalable AI tools for Indian businesses.
“With Llama, we’ve seen the power of open-source AI. Now, with Reliance’s scale, we’re bringing that power to India,” Zuckerberg said via video address.
Google + Reliance: Dedicated AI Cloud in Jamnagar
In parallel, Google is partnering with Reliance to launch a Jamnagar Cloud Region, a purpose-built, AI-ready cloud powered by Google’s compute, Jio’s network, and Reliance’s clean energy.
“The AI opportunity in India is massive,” Pichai noted. “Together, we’re bringing world-class AI infrastructure to Reliance’s core businesses—from telecom to energy.”
Bigger Picture: A Long-Standing Alliance
This isn’t the first big play by Big Tech in India via Reliance. Meta and Google previously invested ₹77,000+ crore in Jio Platforms. With the Jio IPO scheduled for early 2026, both firms are poised for high returns.
The formation of Reliance Intelligence signals not just an ambitious AI future, but also India’s growing centrality in global tech collaboration.
