Agartala, November 24 —
Tension spread through the West Nowabadi area after a late-night assault on a local resident, Amit Sarkar, around 11 p.m. on November 23. According to eyewitness accounts, Sarkar was returning home from Vigorous Club when he noticed a white AURA car (Registration No. TR01BK0451) parked in the middle of the road near the residence of a man identified as Mithu Roy.
Sarkar reportedly saw items being unloaded from the vehicle and carried inside the house, raising his suspicion. When he politely requested Roy to move the car aside so others could pass, three to four individuals, along with Roy himself, allegedly attacked him brutally.
Residents immediately informed the Bodhjungnagar Police Station, and officers arrived on the scene. However, locals allege that police took no action and allowed the vehicle to leave without inquiry, further fueling public frustration.
Residents also claim that illegal and antisocial activities, including alleged sex trade operations, frequently take place at Roy’s residence. Despite previous complaints to the police, no concrete action has reportedly been taken.
The situation escalated enough that the Tripura State Kapali Samaj, led by its president Asim Sarkar, submitted a formal deputation to the West District SP today. The delegation highlighted the rise in drug-related activities, roaming miscreants, and repeated public safety risks after dusk in the area.
The SP assured the delegation that:
- Increased police patrolling will be deployed, and
- Action will be taken regarding the assault on Amit Sarkar.
Local residents hope this assurance will finally bring relief and curb the growing lawlessness in the neighborhood.
