In India, a rickshaw displaying the flag of Bangladesh causes a stir in the city of Joynagar, as both the owner and driver are detained.
On April 24, a 62-year-old man named Dulal Mia, who owns a rickshaw, publicly apologized to the Indian people. The rickshaw, under his ownership, had the national flag of Bangladesh painted on it, which created widespread excitement in the area of Joynagar, West Bengal.
It was reported that a man driving the rickshaw caught the attention of some local youth as he passed by the Joynagar area with the Bangladeshi flag displayed on the vehicle. Living in India, the question arose of how such a rickshaw with the flag ended up there. The rickshaw driver clarified that the rickshaw was not his, but belonged to Dulal Mia, whom he only drove for.
The rickshaw driver further explained that he had encountered obstacles with the flag from various places. As news of the incident spread, tension escalated in the area. Locals immediately reported to the police, leading to both Dulal Mia and the rickshaw driver being detained and taken to the police station.
The incident occurred at a time when political unrest in Bangladesh and diplomatic tensions with India are ongoing. With Pakistan-backed Islamic extremists posing threats, India remains on high alert. In this context, the sight of the Bangladeshi flag on Indian soil naturally caused a stir.
According to local intellectuals, “If someone from India, taking advantage of India’s opportunities and facilities, carries a symbol of another country, it can create a significant level of excitement at a sensitive time.”
Investigations are ongoing, and according to police sources, both individuals are being questioned. The origin of the flag and the reason for it being displayed are being looked into.
