A significant security operation unfolded on Thursday, May 8 at Agartala Railway Station as the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) teamed up to recover a cache of weapons from unclaimed bags found inside a train’s general coach.
The discovery was made when two RPF personnel, stationed at the railway station, spotted two suspicious bags inside a general compartment of train No. 14620 from Firozpur. Acting swiftly, they alerted the RPF control room and the GRP, who immediately responded to the scene.
Upon inspection of the bags, a total of eight factory-made pistols and 16 empty magazines were recovered, although no ammunition was found. Assistant Commandant BK Sinha of the RPF stated that Director General (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar visited the site to evaluate the situation.
Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police, revealed that the train had arrived at the station at 4:30 AM, with the discovery of the suspicious bags occurring around 8:00 AM. Along with the firearms, officials also seized clothing, medicines, and personal items from the bags. A case has been filed against unknown individuals as investigations continue.
Security measures have been intensified at the station and its surroundings, with authorities examining CCTV footage and passenger records to trace the bags’ origins and hold accountable those responsible for bringing the weapons on board the train.
