Sepahijala district in Tripura has been recognized for its outstanding efforts in water conservation, winning the Best District Award at the 6th National Water Awards 2024. This prestigious award was presented by Union Minister of Jal Shakti, CR Paatil, during a press event in New Delhi on November 11.
The National Water Awards, organized by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, honor individuals, organizations, and districts that have made significant contributions to water conservation and management. Sepahijala district stood out among 46 winners in various categories, making it the sole district from the North Eastern region to receive this accolade.
The district’s initiatives have led to improved water availability and quality for its residents, showcasing the importance of sustainable water management practices. As a result of their efforts, Sepahijala has become a role model for other regions striving to enhance water conservation measures.
The award ceremony, scheduled for November 18 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, will see the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest. Sepahijala’s recognition not only reflects the district’s commitment to water conservation but also highlights Tripura’s overall dedication to environmental sustainability and community-driven conservation efforts.
