AGARTALA: In an era where local clubs often make headlines for “extortion” and “subscription terror”—with club members frequently accused of harassing residents for money when they build homes or host events—the Kourabs Club of Subhash Pally, North Badharghat, has set a monumental precedent for social service and integrity.
Breaking the stereotype of club members being focused solely on financial gain, the Secretary of Kourabs Club, Shri Rajesh De, has officially launched a personal humanitarian initiative that has captured the hearts of the local community.
A Lifelong Commitment to the Elderly
In a formal announcement today, Rajesh De declared that as long as he remains the Secretary of the Kourabs Club, he will personally ensure a monthly allowance of ₹500 for the underprivileged elderly residents of the locality. This stipend, he noted, is intended for the “Bayo-Jyoshtho” (senior citizens) to purchase fruits and basic nutritional needs.
“We often hear that clubs are only interested in how much they can earn from local construction or businesses. I want to change that narrative. My goal is to use this platform to serve those who have nurtured us. This is not for show; it is a promise of sustenance and respect for our elders,” Rajesh De stated during the launch.
Direct Benefit to 26 Residents
The commitment was put into action immediately. Starting today, a total of 26 elderly individuals from the Subhash Pally and North Badharghat area were identified as the first batch of beneficiaries.
- The Promise: The ₹500 stipend will be distributed to these 26 individuals before the 10th of every month.
- Personal Contribution: The Secretary clarified that this initiative is a selfless gesture to ensure that the elderly do not feel neglected in their twilight years.
A Paradigm Shift in Club Culture
The move has sparked widespread discussion across Agartala. Residents noted that while it is common for club secretaries to be busy figuring out ways to “earn two extra coins” from the neighborhood, Rajesh De has shown that the true purpose of a club is community welfare.
“In many areas, if you start building a house, the club secretary is the first one at your door asking for ‘donation’ money. Seeing Rajesh Babu do the exact opposite—giving back to the people—is truly exemplary. If every club followed this model, Tripura’s social fabric would be much stronger,” said a local resident of Subhash Pally.
Impact on the Locality
The beneficiaries, many of whom are from low-income households, expressed their heartfelt gratitude. For many, ₹500 represents not just financial help, but a sense of being remembered by the youth of the community.
With this move, Kourabs Club and Rajesh De have challenged other clubs in the capital to rethink their priorities. At a time when the youth are being urged to stay away from “easy money” and anti-social activities, the North Badharghat area has provided a shining example of leadership and compassion.
