A shocking incident of acid attack was reported in West Tripura district, where a woman allegedly poured acid on her husband while riding pillion on his motorcycle. The victim, identified as Shibaji Debbarma, a farmer, suffered burn injuries to his face and neck and is currently receiving treatment at GBP Hospital in Agartala. Medical professionals have stated that his condition is stable.
The incident occurred on Wednesday as Shibaji was on his way to Chandpur with his wife, Sumitra Debbarma, riding behind him on the bike. Suddenly, Sumitra poured acid on her husband, causing him immense pain. He stopped the bike and sought help, but Sumitra attempted to pour more acid on him before villagers intervened. Shibaji was then rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Himadri Sarkar, the Officer-in-Charge of Sidhai police station, stated that preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may be related to alleged domestic violence. It is believed that Sumitra, who is currently on the run, may have been a victim of domestic abuse, which could have triggered her to carry out the acid attack.
At present, no formal complaint has been filed by the victim as he continues to undergo treatment. Authorities are actively searching for Sumitra to bring her to justice. Legal proceedings will be initiated once a formal statement is recorded from Shibaji.
The community and law enforcement are closely monitoring the situation and are committed to ensuring justice is served in this horrific incident.
