News Report (English):
Agartala, Tripura — Marking the fifth anniversary of the historic farmers’ movement in Delhi led by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), protest programs were announced across all state capitals of India for November 26. As part of this nationwide call, AIKKMS — one of the key affiliates of SKM — organized a protest meeting today at Battala, Agartala.
Asit Mondal, Office Secretary of the All India Committee of AIKKMS, attended the gathering as the chief speaker. He reminded that although the central government withdrew the three controversial agricultural laws following the Delhi movement, several major promises made to the farmers remain unfulfilled.
He highlighted key demands that still await action:
— Legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) based on the formula C2 + 50%
— Withdrawal of Electricity Bill 2020
— Price control on essential inputs like fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, electricity, and diesel
— Year-round job security for agricultural laborers
— Pension provisions for farmers and farm laborers above 60 years
Mondal also cautioned that the new laws brought in for regulating agricultural markets are even more dangerous and could heavily impact farmers’ freedom to sell their produce fairly.
“In this situation, a strong and united farmers’ movement is the only way to secure these pending demands,” he said, urging all farmers and agricultural workers, irrespective of political affiliation, to join the collective struggle.
The protest meeting was conducted under the leadership of AIKKMS Tripura State Secretary, Subrata Chakraborty.
