AGARTALA: The playground of Ramnagar High School buzzed with energy and athletic fervor today as the school organized its Annual Sports Competition. The event, which saw enthusiastic participation from students across all grades, was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and local MLA, Shri Dipak Majumder.
Encouraging Holistic Development
The ceremony began with a colourful march-past by the school’s four houses, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial torch. Addressing the students and teachers, Mayor Dipak Majumder emphasized the importance of physical education in the modern era.
“Education is not limited to textbooks alone. While academic excellence is crucial, participation in sports builds character, discipline, and a competitive spirit. Our government is committed to modernizing school infrastructure so that the next generation of athletes can emerge from our local schools,” the Mayor remarked during his inaugural speech.

The sports meet was attended by several prominent personalities who encouraged the young participants:
- Shri Shyamal Kumar Deb, Renowned Social Worker.
- Smt. Aditi Bhattacharya, Nominated Corporator, AMC.
- Members of the School Management Committee (SMC) and senior faculty members.
Events and Highlights
The day featured a variety of track and field events, including the 100m sprint, long jump, shot put, and traditional fun races for the junior sections. The “Go As You Like” competition and the tug-of-war between senior students were the highlights of the afternoon, drawing loud cheers from the spectators.
Social worker Shyamal Kumar Deb also spoke at the event, urging parents to support their children’s interests in outdoor activities as a way to stay away from the sedentary lifestyle induced by excessive mobile phone usage.
Building a “Nesha Mukt” Future through Sports
The guests noted that sports act as a natural deterrent against social evils. By engaging in regular physical activities, students develop a sense of national pride and health consciousness, contributing to the state’s “Nesha Mukt” (Drug-Free) mission.
The day concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where Mayor Dipak Majumder and Corporator Aditi Bhattacharya handed over medals and trophies to the winners. The school authorities thanked the guests for their presence and constant support in improving the educational environment of Ramnagar.
