Agartala, Tripura: For the first time, the residents of Srinagar and Anandanagar have come together to organize a grand two-day celebration of Makar Sankranti Snan and Poush Mela. The event is scheduled to take place at the Srinagar Dashamighat Ground on January 12 (Monday) and January 13 (Tuesday), 2026.
A Historic Community Collaboration
While Makar Sankranti is a staple festival in Tripura’s cultural calendar, this year marks a significant milestone as the two neighboring localities have joined forces to host a unified celebration. The joint initiative aims to foster communal harmony and preserve the traditional heritage of the “Poush” season.
Event Highlights and Schedule
The festival will transform the Dashamighat area into a hub of cultural and spiritual activity. The organizers have planned a variety of programs to cater to devotees and visitors of all ages.
- Makar Sankranti Holy Bath: Following age-old traditions, hundreds of devotees are expected to gather for the auspicious ritual bath (Snan) in the early hours of the morning.
- Poush Mela (Fair): The two-day fair will feature stalls showcasing local handicrafts, traditional “Pitha-Puli” (rice cakes), and regional delicacies.
- Cultural Programs: Evenings will be dedicated to traditional folk music and cultural performances presented by local artists from both Srinagar and Anandanagar.
- Community Feast: Arrangements for community kitchens and “Prasad” distribution are being finalized by the organizing committee.
Security and Facilities
Given the expected footfall, the organizing committee has coordinated with local authorities to ensure proper lighting, drinking water, and safety measures at the Srinagar Dashamighat Ground. Volunteers from both areas will be deployed to manage the crowds and facilitate the ritual bathing process.
“This is more than just a fair; it is a bridge between the residents of Srinagar and Anandanagar. We invite everyone to join us in making this inaugural joint venture a grand success,” a spokesperson for the organizing committee stated.
