Agartala, March 9, 2025 – Tensions escalated in Tripura as STGT (Selection Test for Graduate Teachers) 2022 candidates staged a protest demanding their immediate recruitment in state-run schools. The protesters gathered near Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s residence, urging the Education Minister and Cabinet Ministers to address their long-pending job demands.
Protest for Teacher Recruitment Turns Chaotic
The STGT-qualified candidates claimed that despite passing the teacher eligibility exam in 2022, the government has yet to issue their appointment letters, leaving them unemployed and frustrated. The demonstrators blocked the road leading to the CM’s residence, chanting slogans and demanding justice.
As the situation intensified, East Agartala Police arrived at the scene and forcibly removed the protesters. Several candidates were detained and taken into custody, although no reports of violence emerged.
STGT Candidates Demand Immediate Job Appointments
According to the protesting candidates, Tripura’s Education Department has failed to complete the teacher recruitment process, despite the urgent need for educators in state schools. They accused the government of delaying job notifications, pushing many qualified youth into unemployment.
Government’s Response & Next Steps
While the state government has not issued an official statement, sources indicate that Tripura’s Education Department is reviewing the recruitment backlog and may soon address the pending job postings. However, STGT candidates warn of intensifying protests if their demands remain unmet.
With the education sector facing critical staff shortages, the ongoing dispute between teacher candidates and the government highlights growing concerns over employment policies in Tripura. The protesters have vowed to continue their agitation until official job postings are announced.
