In a major development that could shake up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have reportedly threatened to move out of Hyderabad and not play their home matches at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. According to a report, the franchise is seriously considering shifting base due to alleged instances of harassment and unprofessional treatment from local authorities.
The issue reportedly stems from ongoing disagreements and operational hurdles between the franchise management and certain local officials related to stadium usage, permissions, and other administrative matters. SRH has expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of support and coordination in organizing home matches, calling the treatment “unprofessional” and even likening it to harassment.
Sources close to the franchise have revealed that the management is already exploring alternative venues to host their home matches in IPL 2025, should the situation in Hyderabad remain unresolved. Cities like Visakhapatnam, Pune, or Nagpur are being considered as potential temporary homes for the team.
The threat to shift base is a significant blow not just to fans in Hyderabad but also to the Telangana Cricket Association and state stakeholders, as home games bring in substantial revenue, tourism, and local business.
As of now, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the Sunrisers Hyderabad management has issued an official public statement, but talks are reportedly underway to resolve the matter before the start of the tournament.
If unresolved, this could mark a rare and controversial franchise relocation in IPL history.
