News Report:
The managing committee of Durga Chowmuhani Market was unable to conduct elections within their term, prompting intervention from the Mayor. As a result, a temporary managing committee comprising 13 members—including representatives from four local clubs—was formed to oversee the market’s operations.
On Thursday, the newly appointed committee organised a press conference. Convenor Bhavatosh Sarkar, speaking on behalf of the committee, announced that a 12-day Mahanam Sankirtan will begin at the market from December 17. He appealed for cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the smooth conduct of the religious event.
Sarkar also stated that the committee is committed to eliminating all forms of addiction-related activities from the market premises, aiming to restore a peaceful and disciplined environment for traders and visitors.
The press conference highlighted the committee’s priorities as they begin their interim tenure, emphasising community welfare and orderly market management.
