Drug tablets worth approximately ten crore taka have been seized from a vehicle at the Aathamurra Hills in the Mongla region. The incident occurred during a routine police check at around 4:41 PM on Wednesday in the area. The police officers conducting the check noticed a suspicious odor coming from a passenger vehicle with the registration number TR 01 M 3624 and decided to search it. During the search, they found a hidden compartment beneath the driver’s seat containing a large quantity of illegal tablets.
The police officers immediately informed the local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Teliyamurra district and the Officer-in-Charge of the Mongla Police Station. A magistrate and police officials from the area were also present at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, Bikash Deb, and his accomplice, Sumon Majumdar, were arrested in connection with the seizure of the drugs.
According to Pannalal Sen, a police officer from the Teliyamurra district, the street value of the seized tablets is estimated to be around ten crore taka. Sources from the Narcotics Department confirmed that drug trafficking through various means, including roads and railways, is a growing issue in the region.
The seizure of such a large quantity of illegal drugs highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the area. The authorities are continuing their investigation to identify the source and distribution network of these illicit substances.
