News Report:
Agartala, Tripura: A three-day Swadeshi Mela will be organised at Vivekananda Maidan, Agartala, from January 9 to January 11, under the initiative of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, with support from the Tripura state government. The announcement was made by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder.
The fair will be formally inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha. Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee, along with other MPs and members of the state cabinet, are also expected to visit the fair during the three-day event.
On Monday, Mayor Dipak Majumder, along with Municipal Commissioner D. K. Chakma, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das, and other officials, inspected the preparations at Vivekananda Maidan. Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Mayor said the Swadeshi Mela is being organised for the first time in the state, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vocal for Local” and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
He said the fair will showcase products manufactured in Tripura as well as across India, with the objective of encouraging people to use indigenous goods and reduce dependence on foreign products. Every day, speakers will address visitors on the theme of Swadeshi Jagaran (promotion of indigenous products), alongside cultural programmes reflecting the state’s diverse heritage.
The fair will also feature traditional food stalls representing the mixed culture of tribal and non-tribal communities of Tripura, cultural performances, and awareness stalls from various government departments. Around 60–65 stalls are expected to be set up, including stalls featuring products from Patanjali and other ashrams.
Mayor Majumder appealed to the people of the state to participate in large numbers and enjoy the winter ambience while supporting local producers. He said the initiative aims to strengthen the message of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Atmanirbhar Tripura by promoting local industries, craftsmanship, and cultural diversity.
The Swadeshi Mela will remain open to the public daily from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
