A high-level delegation from the TIPRA Motha Party, led by chairman Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, recently met with BJP national president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi to address pressing issues facing Tripura. The delegation urged for immediate action on the promised TIPRASA Accord and a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Tripura’s electoral roll.
Party sources revealed that during the meeting, the delegation highlighted the demographic vulnerability of indigenous communities in the state and stressed the need for a comprehensive revision of the electoral list to protect their political rights. The TIPRA Motha team also urged the BJP leadership to fulfill its commitment to implement the TIPRASA Accord, a pledge made by the Centre prior to the Lok Sabha elections.
In an interview with India Today NE, Pradyot Debbarma stated, “We met with the BJP national president and union tribal welfare minister Jual Oram. We have communicated the issues that need to be addressed and we are hopeful that they will be resolved expeditiously.”
The meeting also addressed concerns regarding national security in light of increasing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The leaders acknowledged that these developments have a direct impact on Tripura, given its lengthy and porous border with the neighboring country.
Notable figures present at the meeting included Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, MP Kriti Devi Debbarman (Tripura East), TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, Minister of State Birshaketu Debbarma, and various TIPRA Motha MLAs and MDCs.
The delegation’s visit to New Delhi follows a recent meeting with the Election Commission of India, where the party advocated for the prompt initiation of the Special Intensive Revision process. The TIPRA Motha Party continues to actively engage with key stakeholders to address critical issues facing Tripura and its indigenous communities.
