TMC leader Anubrata Mondal has found himself in hot water once again, this time for using abusive language in a phone call with a police inspector. The Trinamool Congress has taken a strong stance against Mondal, censuring him for his behavior and demanding an apology within four hours.
The incident occurred when Mondal called Bolpur police station inspector in charge Litan Halder and allegedly used derogatory language against him and his family. The inspector recorded the conversation and reported it to his senior officers, leading to the filing of an FIR against Mondal by the police.
In response to the backlash, Mondal penned a letter of apology, expressing regret for his actions and claiming that he could not imagine humiliating any officer of “Didi’s police”, referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also holds the position of state home minister. Mondal attributed his anger towards the inspector to certain allegations made against the police and questioned how the BJP obtained a recording of his conversation.
The TMC, in a statement on social media, condemned Mondal’s behavior and instructed him to apologize within four hours or face further action. The Birbhum district police have initiated legal proceedings against Mondal, with SP Amandeep Singh stating that strong action will be taken.
This incident comes amidst a revamp within the TMC, with Mondal being removed from his position as Birbhum district president ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal. Despite being a member of the core committee now overseeing the district party unit, Mondal continues to face scrutiny due to his past legal troubles, including his arrest by the CBI and ED in cases related to alleged cattle smuggling in 2022.
