The tragic death of 15-year-old student Roni Das has left the community in Surma, under the Dhalai district of Tripura, reeling in shock. Roni, a talented Class 10 student at Kamalpur XII School, allegedly took his own life after being accused of stealing Rs 20 from a local shop.
The incident occurred on Monday, September 1, in Kuchainala village. Roni, who had gone to the shop with Rs 20 given to him by his father, was accused by the shop owner of taking money from the cash box. He was taken behind the shop to the owner’s house, where he may have been beaten and insulted before being released.
After the incident, Roni went missing, prompting his father, Jewel Das, to search for him. Jewel discovered his son had consumed pesticide and rushed him to Kamalpur Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Roni’s condition deteriorated, and he was eventually transferred to Dhalai District Hospital and later to Agartala, where he tragically passed away that same night.
Jewel Das, devastated by the loss of his son, stated, “My son could never do such a thing. He was a good student and had a bright future ahead of him.” He also mentioned finding a suicide note in which Roni denied the theft accusations.
On September 3, Roni’s father, accompanied by villagers, approached Kamalpur Police Station to file a written complaint demanding justice for his son’s untimely death. The community is struggling to come to terms with the loss of a promising young life over such a trivial amount of money.
Authorities have begun investigating the case to uncover the truth behind the accusations and the events leading to Roni’s tragic end. The incident has sparked outrage and sadness among locals, who are calling for justice for Roni Das.
