RESISTANCE ON THE STREETS: CPI(ML) Hits Agartala Roads to Mobilize Support for Feb 12 Nationwide Strike
Agartala | February 6, 2026 Reported by: Tripura 24 News Desk
In a powerful display of political activism, the Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) organized a spirited protest rally in the heart of Agartala today. The demonstration was held to drum up support for the upcoming Nationwide General Strike on February 12, called by central trade unions and sectoral federations to protest the central government’s economic and labor policies.
The Rally: From Paradise Chowmuhani to the City Heart
The protest march commenced from the iconic Paradise Chowmuhani area. Hundreds of party workers and supporters, carrying red flags and banners, marched through the major thoroughfares of the capital, raising slogans that echoed the core demands of the movement: “Save the Country, Save the Workers, Save the Farmers.”
Systematic Critique of Central Policies
Addressing the gathering at the conclusion of the march, CPI(ML) leaders launched a scathing attack on both the Union and State governments. The protest highlighted a multi-pronged systematic failure in current governance:
- Labor Rights Under Attack: Leaders condemned the implementation of new Labor Codes, alleging they are designed to strip workers of job security and collective bargaining power, favoring corporate giants over the toiling masses.
- The Agrarian Crisis: The party demanded a statutory guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the withdrawal of policies that they claim are pushing small farmers into debt traps.
- Economic Hardship: Speakers pointed to the skyrocketing prices of essential goods and the “visionless” Union Budget 2026-27, which they argued has neglected the rural poor and increased the burden of unemployment.
Call for a “Total Success” on February 12
The CPI(ML) leadership urged all sections of society—from transport workers and bank employees to farmers and students—to observe a complete shutdown on February 12.
“This strike is not just a political event; it is a battle for the survival of the common man,” a senior leader stated. “When the government ignores the cries of the workers and farmers, the only language left is the language of the streets. We will ensure that the February 12 strike is a total success across Tripura.”
Impact on Agartala
The rally briefly impacted traffic movement in the busy Paradise Chowmuhani and Post Office areas, with police units deployed to ensure order. Despite the disruption, the atmosphere remained charged with the determination of the protesters to take their “Save the Country” message to every doorstep in the state.
