Agartala, Tripura:
Tensions escalated in the Tripura Legislative Assembly as a heated debate over a caste-related issue led to an uproar, prompting CPIM MLAs to stage a walkout on the floor of the House in protest.
During the session, members of the opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) raised concerns over comments and policies they claimed were discriminatory and divisive in nature. The debate quickly intensified as ruling party legislators reportedly dismissed the opposition’s concerns, leading to sharp verbal exchanges.
Alleging that the state government was mishandling sensitive caste-related issues and ignoring constitutional values, the CPIM MLAs walked out of the Assembly in protest. Speaking to the media afterward, CPIM leaders stated that their action was a “symbolic protest against caste-based injustice and the erosion of democratic debate in the House.”
One senior CPIM MLA remarked, “We cannot be silent spectators when the dignity of communities is being compromised under the guise of policy. Our walkout is a wake-up call to the government to address these matters responsibly.”
The incident has triggered political discussions across Tripura, with many questioning whether the Assembly is becoming increasingly polarized along caste and ideological lines.
This latest controversy adds to a growing list of confrontations between the ruling party and the CPIM-led opposition over governance, inclusion, and minority rights.
