Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen has expressed his concerns over the rising drug abuse and deteriorating law and order situation in his constituency, Dharmanagar, located in North Tripura district.
During a meeting with Meena Debbarma, the newly appointed Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dharmanagar Police Station, Sen emphasized the need for concrete steps to address these issues.
“The smuggling and abuse of drugs are serious problems in Dharmanagar. I had previously raised this issue with the former OC, but unfortunately, not much was done. The current law and order situation is not satisfactory, which reflects poorly on the government,” Sen stated.
The experienced leader also raised concerns about certain individuals with vested interests frequently visiting the police station.
“It appears that the police personnel may feel intimidated by these individuals when they visit the station. There is no reason to entertain them or provide them with special treatment. People do not visit the police station every day to file complaints or FIRs,” Sen pointed out.
Sen urged the OC to avoid showing favoritism when addressing law and order issues and stressed the importance of enforcing the law strictly.
“I trust that you will uphold the law firmly. This will help restore public confidence and enhance the credibility of the police force and the government as a whole,” Sen added. (PTI)
