Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya launched a scathing attack on the opposition parties, particularly Congress and CPIM, during a press conference on Tuesday, May 6. Bhattacharya criticized Congress for organizing a ‘Save Constitution Abhiyan’ in the state, questioning their credibility on the matter.
“The Congress, which ruled the country for a significant period, never paid homage to the father of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. They did not even display his photo inside the Parliament. How can a party that neglected Dr. B.R. Ambedkar now talk about saving the Constitution?” Bhattacharya questioned.
He went on to accuse Congress of declaring Emergency in 1975 during Indira Gandhi’s regime, resulting in the arrest of political leaders and journalists. Bhattacharya also highlighted the imposition of President’s Rule in Tripura during the Congress-TUJS government in 1993, citing instances of misuse of power and arrests under the National Security Act.
Turning his attention to CPIM, Bhattacharya slammed the party for criticizing BJP over recruitment issues. He alleged that CPIM had presided over a corrupt regime in Tripura for 25 years, where jobs were distributed based on political affiliations and widespread scams occurred. Bhattacharya did not mince his words when he suggested that CPIM leaders should seek redemption by taking a holy dip in the Ganga river.
The BJP leader emphasized that his party has maintained a transparent recruitment policy, devoid of any political bias, and has been issuing offer letters openly. He dismissed allegations of recruitment scams made by CPIM as baseless and hypocritical.
In a direct attack on Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, Bhattacharya accused him of conveniently forgetting the wrongdoings of his own party in the past. He reiterated BJP’s commitment to fair recruitment practices and vowed to continue serving the people of Tripura with integrity and transparency.
