The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, made a significant announcement on August 16 regarding the establishment of a cricket academy in the state. During the annual award function of the Tripura Cricket Academy (TCA), Saha expressed his commitment to providing full support to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in setting up a cricket academy.
Saha emphasized the importance of providing top-notch facilities to aspiring cricketers in Tripura. He highlighted the significance of physical and mental fitness in becoming a successful cricketer, stressing the need for proper training which can only be achieved through a cricket academy.
Having personally visited the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and witnessing the state-of-the-art facilities available there, Saha stated that the Tripura government is prepared to assist BCCI in establishing a modern cricket academy in the state. He mentioned that upon receiving a land requisition from the BCCI, the government will seriously consider it.
Furthermore, Saha disclosed that the funds in TCA’s bank account are designated for enhancing facilities for the players. He urged the TCA to explore opportunities for expanding cricketing facilities in various subdivisions of the state. Saha suggested creating facilities at the subdivision level to allow players to practice during the monsoon season when the state’s climate limits playing time to only four months.
In addition to the cricket academy, Saha revealed that the international cricket stadium under construction in West Tripura is expected to be completed within the next six months. This development is seen as a significant boost for cricketing infrastructure in the state, further solidifying Tripura’s position in the world of cricket.
