Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha reiterated the state government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drugs on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Speaking at a special awareness program organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Agartala Zonal Unit, in collaboration with the West Tripura District Administration, Dr. Saha emphasized the urgent need to address the growing threat of addiction, particularly among young people.
During the event held at Umakanta Academy in Agartala, Dr. Saha stated that the government is fully empowering law enforcement and anti-narcotics agencies to take decisive action against drug-related activities. He highlighted the government’s commitment to cracking down on the menace of drug abuse.
While enforcement is crucial in combating drug abuse, Dr. Saha also stressed the importance of addressing addiction as a disease. He called for a holistic approach involving legal, social, and medical interventions. Dr. Saha urged parents, teachers, community leaders, and the youth to come together in the fight against drugs.
Tripura continues to implement its flagship campaign Nesha Mukt Tripura (Drug-Free Tripura), which engages students and local communities through awareness drives and educational initiatives. Additionally, programs like Khelo Tripura and Sustha Tripura promote healthy lifestyles and sporting activities as positive alternatives for the youth.
As the state observes the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Dr. Saha called on everyone to pledge to create a society free from addiction and to empower and safeguard the youth. The event highlighted Tripura’s proactive efforts in tackling drug abuse through a combination of enforcement, awareness, and community involvement, reinforcing the state’s firm stand against illicit drug trafficking.
