Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the need for strengthened security measures in the state in light of the current situation in neighbouring Bangladesh. Speaking at the inauguration of Tripura’s first Cyber Crime Police Station in Agartala, Dr. Saha highlighted the state’s vulnerable geographical position, bordered by Bangladesh on three sides, and the growing threats of infiltration, drug smuggling, and digital crime.
Dr. Saha expressed concerns over the present situation in Bangladesh and the potential impact it could have on Tripura. He pointed out that Tripura has become a corridor for drug smuggling and that cross-border infiltration remains a serious concern. Additionally, he warned about the misuse of AI-powered 5G technologies and the risks associated with individuals communicating across the border.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of public awareness in combating cyber fraud and urged security agencies to continuously upgrade their capabilities. He noted that modern warfare is now more about digital supremacy than traditional methods, with cybercrime posing a significant threat to national security.
The newly launched Cyber Crime Police Station, funded with an initial ₹45 lakh out of a ₹5 crore outlay from the Centre, will serve as a central hub for cybercrime investigations in Tripura. Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar encouraged citizens to report any digital crimes promptly and assured that the state is enhancing its capacity to address emerging digital threats.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize Tripura’s law enforcement and strengthen the state against physical and cyber threats. Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of vigilance and technical skill in countering cybercrime and ensuring the security of the state and its residents.
