Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has remained silent on the recent threat by Tripura Motha Party (TMP) MLA Ranjit Debbarma to withdraw from the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura. Debbarma cited unfulfilled promises regarding the Tiprasa Accord as the reason for the potential withdrawal of support.
The Tiprasa Accord was signed in March 2024 with the aim of promoting the overall development of indigenous people in Tripura. However, over a year later, concerns have been raised about the lack of implementation of the agreement.
Chief Minister Manik Saha declined to comment on Debbarma’s threat publicly, stating that it is not appropriate for him to pass judgment on the statement. He did mention that he is in constant communication with TMP leadership, including party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, to address their concerns.
The TMP is an important ally of the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura, with 13 MLAs in the 60-member assembly. Even if the TMP were to withdraw support, the BJP-led government would still have enough MLAs to remain in power.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma expressed understanding of the frustration felt by MLA Ranjit Debbarma and acknowledged the genuine concerns and insecurities faced by rural communities in Tripura. He stated that he will speak to the MLA and continue discussions with Chief Minister Saha to ensure the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord for the benefit of indigenous people in the state.
The situation remains tense as the TMP contemplates its next steps, while the BJP-led government works to address the concerns raised by the party. The future of the coalition government in Tripura hangs in the balance as negotiations continue between all parties involved.
