Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has unveiled plans to elevate the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) to new heights by introducing superspeciality courses, as well as forging a partnership with AIIMS, New Delhi for hospital management training.
During the 21st foundation day celebration of AGMC, Saha expressed his commitment to enhancing medical education and healthcare services in the state. He highlighted the success of postgraduate medical courses and emphasized the need for superspeciality courses to further advance medical education in Tripura.
The chief minister revealed that an MoU with AIIMS, New Delhi is on the horizon, with the aim of providing training in hospital management. Following a recent visit by a team from AIIMS, a report was submitted to enhance services at GBP Hospital and AGMC. Saha stated that the MoU will soon be finalized to ensure doctors in Tripura receive top-notch training in hospital management.
In a groundbreaking move, Saha announced that three kidney transplants have already been performed at the GBP Hospital-AGMC campus, with plans in motion to introduce liver and heart transplant facilities. This development aims to reduce the necessity for patients to seek treatment outside the state.
Furthermore, the state government is set to establish a 100-bed modern eye hospital at Khejurbagan in Agartala, with the location finalized and the DPR nearing completion. Funding for the eye hospital has been allocated in this year’s budget.
In addition to the advancements at AGMC, the Agartala Government Dental College (AGDC) is gearing up to introduce postgraduate courses in dentistry, further bolstering the state’s medical education offerings.
With these progressive initiatives and partnerships, Tripura is poised to elevate its healthcare and medical education standards, ensuring better services and training for the people of the state.
