News Report:
A press conference was organised at the Tripura Pradesh Congress Bhavan on Monday, where party leaders raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) across the state. The Congress leadership demanded that the government release a detailed report ensuring that traders are not overcharging citizens under the pretext of GST.
Party spokespersons stated that several complaints have emerged from consumers who claim they are being billed with inflated GST amounts, resulting in financial burden and unfair pricing practices. Congress leaders urged the government to conduct a comprehensive review and publish a clear paper outlining steps taken to prevent misuse of GST provisions.
In addition to the GST issue, the Congress placed several other demands, calling for greater transparency in taxation, strict monitoring of billing practices, and stronger consumer protection mechanisms. Leaders emphasised that the government must act immediately to safeguard citizens from being fleeced in the name of GST.
The party reiterated that GST was intended to simplify taxation—not create avenues for exploitation—and urged authorities to ensure proper enforcement across markets and business establishments.
