Tripura Congress youth leader Shahjahan Miah found himself at the center of controversy after his house in Agartala was attacked late Sunday night. The attack came after Miah criticized the Tripura Government and police for their alleged inaction following clashes related to alleged cow slaughter incidents on Bakrid in the Gomati district.
In a video posted on his social media page, Miah expressed his frustration with the state government and police for failing to address the alleged disruptions during the customary animal slaughter on Bakrid. He also made disparaging remarks about Chief Minister Manik Saha and accused BJP minority leaders of being dishonest. Miah even called for a social boycott of Muslims serving as leaders in the BJP.
The video sparked a heated debate online, with BJP activists and other netizens demanding action against Miah. The ruling BJP filed a complaint against the Congress leader at the East Agartala Police Station. Following the complaint, Miah’s house in the Shantipara area of Agartala was attacked by a group of individuals armed with firearms. Miah claimed that the attackers attempted to kill him, but he managed to lock himself in a room. He alleged that the attackers then assaulted his parents and wife.
Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with Tripura state Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, visited Miah’s house to show their support. Roy Barman strongly condemned the attack and vowed to seek justice through legal means. He criticized the Tripura government, accusing them of fostering a fascist environment where such attacks are allowed to occur.
Roy Barman insinuated that those responsible for the attack may have ties to the Chief Minister, suggesting that the incident was politically motivated. He called for accountability from the government and urged for a proper investigation into the attack on Miah’s residence. The incident has raised concerns about the state of law and order in Tripura, with many questioning the government’s ability to protect its citizens.
