All district administrations in Tripura are on high alert following warnings of heavy rainfall from the Meteorological Centre, Agartala. The Orange and Yellow alerts issued for various districts have prompted the Tripura Revenue Department to instruct authorities to keep security and rescue teams prepared.
According to the forecast, South Tripura district is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall between August 21 and 25, while Gomati and Sepahijala districts are likely to be impacted on August 24 and 25. A Yellow Alert has also been issued for the remaining districts from August 21 to 25.
In response to the alerts, the Additional Secretary to the Government of Tripura, J.V. Duati, has instructed all District Magistrates and Collectors to be prepared for any eventuality. Rescue and relief teams, including NDRF, SDRF, TSR, Fire & Emergency Services, trained volunteers, and quick response teams, have been asked to be on standby.
District authorities have been directed to keep flood-rescue equipment such as boats and life jackets ready, monitor river flows and embankments, and evacuate vulnerable people from low-lying areas to safe shelters if necessary. Officials are also tasked with conducting immediate damage assessments, restoring essential services in case of disruptions, and reporting updates to the State Emergency Operations Centre by 2 pm daily.
The government has stressed the importance of need-based responses in accordance with disaster management plans and has urged district administrations to closely monitor real-time updates from the IMD.
Authorities have also appealed to the public to exercise caution and adhere to safety instructions during the heavy rainfall period. With the potential for significant rainfall in the coming days, it is essential for residents to stay informed and prepared for any potential emergency situations.
