The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has recently announced new power tariff rates for the financial year 2025-26, with changes set to take effect from November 1st. A senior official from the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) revealed that the revised rates will apply to approximately 10.50 lakh consumers across different categories.
Despite the tariff revision, the official noted that there will be minimal changes in electricity bills for consumers. The average cost of power supply for the upcoming year has been approved at ₹7.61 per kW, slightly higher than the previous rate of ₹7.56 per kW. Fixed charges have also been standardized for domestic and commercial users, with single-phase domestic consumers now facing a uniform fixed charge of ₹16 per kW per month, down from the previous slabs of ₹25 and ₹75.
In an effort to support industrial and social development, the new tariff structure includes a 10% rebate on energy charges for IT industries. Additionally, women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and mobile towers located in remote areas will also benefit from a 10% rebate on their bills.
The criteria for the Kutir Jyoti category have been updated as well, allowing for a maximum connected load of 0.5 kW and a maximum permissible monthly consumption of 30 kWh, up from the previous limit of 15 kWh. However, consumers exceeding 30 kWh for three consecutive months will be automatically shifted to the regular domestic category.
TERC has also issued directives to enhance efficiency in the power sector, including the continued rollout of smart meters to improve billing accuracy and energy efficiency. Furthermore, TSECL has been tasked with submitting a proposal for a green tariff in the next tariff petition, giving consumers the option to use green energy at a premium.
Overall, the new power tariff rates in Tripura aim to balance the needs of consumers while promoting sustainability and efficiency in the state’s power sector.
