News Report:
The Tripura Gig Workers Union submitted a deputation to the Labour Department pressing for the fulfilment of a seven-point charter of demands.
Union representatives stated that gig workers across the state are facing job insecurity, lack of social protection, and absence of formal grievance redressal mechanisms. Through the deputation, the union demanded measures including social security coverage, fair wages, accident insurance, and recognition of gig workers’ rights.
Addressing the media, union leaders urged the authorities to initiate dialogue and take concrete steps to safeguard the interests of gig workers, who play a growing role in the state’s service economy. They warned that further democratic programmes may be undertaken if their demands are not addressed promptly.
