The Tripura government is taking steps to enforce the Centre’s import restrictions on certain products through meetings with importers in the state. The Industries and Commerce department recently organized a meeting to discuss the implementation of the directive, which restricts the import of items such as readymade garments, fruits, processed foods, cotton, plastics, and PVC finished goods from Bangladesh.
Chaired by the Director of the Industries and Commerce department, Dr. Sailesh Kumar Yadav, the meeting also included officials from the Land Port Authority of India, Border Security Force, and Customs. The main objective of the meeting was to ensure cooperation from all stakeholders in enforcing the restrictions imposed by the Central government.
According to an official present at the meeting, there were some doubts raised by importers regarding the restrictions, but these concerns were addressed during the meeting. The official also mentioned that further meetings will be held to review and assess the situation.
Another official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that while importers may encounter some challenges initially, they generally welcomed the decision to restrict imports of certain products from Bangladesh. Overall, it seems that both the government officials and importers are in agreement on the need for strict implementation of the Centre’s directives on import restrictions.
