The state government of Tripura has recently announced a new standardised uniform policy for students in government schools with the aim of promoting equality, discipline, and a unified identity across the education system.
The directive, which covers students from Classes I to XII, outlines three separate uniform categories. Vidyajyoti Schools will have a common uniform, PM-SHRI Schools will maintain their own unique uniform design, and the remaining government schools will adopt another single pattern and colour scheme.
However, four institutions have been exempted from this rule. Shishu Bihar H.S. School, Sukhamoy HS School, and Umakanta Academy in West Tripura district, as well as PM-SHRI Radha Kishore Institution in Unakoti district, will not be required to follow the new uniform policy.
The policy is set to be fully implemented from the next academic session. In the meantime, schools are allowed to use both the old and new uniforms to give families and institutions time to adjust to the changes.
Under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, students in Classes I to VIII from specific categories will receive centrally distributed uniforms. The state government has already started providing the newly approved uniforms to these groups, and distribution is expected to be completed soon.
The Education Department has instructed District Education Officers to oversee the implementation of the new uniform policy. Principals, headmasters, and teachers-in-charge will be responsible for enforcing the guidelines, while officials will monitor compliance and report progress.
According to the government, this step is intended to reduce disparities among students, promote discipline, and strengthen the collective identity of state-run schools in Tripura.
