The Tripura government has reassured its residents that there is no need for panic amidst the railway disruption caused by a damaged track in the Haflong–Jatinga section of Assam. The state has confirmed that it has enough food and essential commodities to last for over 80 days, along with a 10-day supply of fuel.
A senior Tripura government official spoke to India Today NE, stating that a review meeting was held with Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) officials to assess the situation after a landslide dislodged boulders and debris onto the railway line. The landslide was triggered by ongoing road repair work by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The official mentioned that Tripura currently has a 10-day stock of fuel, a 5-day supply of LPG cylinders, rice for 86 days, wheat for 56 days, and an adequate amount of pulses. The NFR officials have informed the state that it will take at least three days to restore railway connectivity, and they are providing regular updates to ensure constant coordination.
In response to the disruption, the NFR has confirmed the cancellation of four express trains from Agartala. Efforts are underway by the Railways and state authorities to restore train services in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section. Heavy machinery, equipment, and manpower have been deployed to clear the debris and restore the tracks.
A joint monitoring and coordinated effort is in progress to ensure the safety of the line before train services can resume. The Tripura government is hopeful that the situation will be resolved within the next three days, and residents are urged not to panic as there is an ample supply of essential commodities and fuel to sustain them during this period of disruption.
