The Tripura Government has taken swift action in response to the tragic incident that led to the death of truck driver Mihir Lal Debnath in Khowai District. The government has suspended a Sub-Divisional Magistrate and formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the driver’s death.
Debnath, a resident of Kanchanpur in North Tripura district, lost his life after being trapped inside his truck cabin for several hours following a road accident in the Chakmaghat area on the night of August 4. The truck, loaded with cement, crashed into a tree, causing severe damage to the cabin and trapping the driver from the waist down. Despite efforts by disaster management officials, Debnath succumbed to his injuries due to delays in the rescue operation caused by malfunctioning equipment.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has announced that the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Teliamura has been suspended, and a show-cause notice has been issued to the Khowai District Magistrate and Collector. Additionally, a three-member committee, led by the Secretary of Revenue, has been tasked with investigating the incident.
In a statement, Dr. Saha expressed his commitment to ensuring justice for Debnath and his family, stating, “We remain firmly committed to justice and to upholding the people’s faith in our government.” The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh for the deceased, with Rs 4 lakh coming from the Disaster Management Fund and Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Social Welfare & Social Education Minister Tinku Roy and Industry & Commerce Minister Santana Chakma will visit the residence of the deceased to offer their condolences and support to the family. The government’s actions aim to address the concerns raised by this tragic incident and restore public trust in the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
