The Tripura Government is putting pressure on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to ensure that repair work on the Assam-Agartala National Highway (NH-8) is completed before the upcoming Durga puja festival. PWD secretary Kiran Gitte, accompanied by senior officials from NHIDCL and Tripura PWD, recently inspected the highway to assess the current state of affairs.
With Durga puja set to begin on September 29, 2025, the government is keen to ensure that the highway is in good condition to accommodate the increased traffic expected during the festive period. Reports of the poor state of the National Highway from Kumarghat to Churaibari in Unakoti and North districts prompted the government to take action.
During the inspection, officials identified areas in need of urgent repair and discussed a plan of action to expedite the work. The NHIDCL has been given a strict deadline to complete the repairs before Durga puja to avoid any inconvenience to commuters and ensure the safety of all road users.
The Assam-Agartala National Highway is a crucial link for the state, connecting Tripura to the rest of the country. Ensuring its smooth functioning is essential for the economic and social well-being of the region. The government is committed to prioritizing infrastructure development projects that benefit the people of Tripura.
In response to the government’s directive, NHIDCL has assured that all necessary measures will be taken to expedite the repair work and meet the deadline. The collaboration between the government and NHIDCL reflects a shared commitment to improving infrastructure in Tripura and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
