Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu recently launched a Food Basket Distribution initiative for tuberculosis (TB) patients as part of the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’s Nikshay Mitra Campaign. The event took place at the Sukanta Academy Auditorium on October 25 and was jointly organized by the National Health Mission (NHM), Tripura, and the Rotary Club of Agartala.
The main objective of the initiative is to provide nutritional support to TB patients, ultimately improving recovery rates and encouraging community involvement in the fight against tuberculosis. Governor Reddy emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in achieving a TB-free India and commended the NHM and the Rotary Club for their efforts in promoting public health welfare.
In a separate event on the same day, Chief Minister Manik Saha launched the Samriddhi initiative under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) at the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan. This program aims to empower women economically in rural areas, with a specific focus on creating Lakhpati Didis (women with assets worth one lakh rupees).
Saha announced that 1,08,281 women in Tripura have already achieved the status of Lakhpati Didi, accounting for nearly 95 per cent of the target set by the program. He stressed the importance of empowering women, especially in rural areas, for the overall development of the state and the country.
Currently, around 4.86 lakh women are part of 54,170 self-help groups across Tripura, supported by village organizations, federations, and producer collectives. The TRLM has provided bank loans totaling Rs 1,773 crore to support micro-enterprises, integrated farming clusters, and non-farm collectives within the state. The goal is to continue supporting women in rural areas to further strengthen their economic independence and contribute to the overall development of Tripura.
