The Higher Education Department of Tripura has taken swift action against alleged misconduct and forgery in the ongoing undergraduate admissions process for the academic year 2025-26. Dr. Abhijit Nath, an Assistant Professor at Ramthakur College in Agartala, has been suspended following serious allegations brought to light in a local newspaper report on July 19.
The suspension order, signed by Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, was issued after college authorities discovered discrepancies in the official admission list and forged fee cards bearing the college administration’s signatures. Dr. Nath admitted to taking 50 fee cards without authorization and keeping them at his residence. While he returned 28 cards when questioned, the whereabouts of the remaining cards remains unknown.
Further investigations revealed that a total of 120 fee cards had been taken by Dr. Nath, leading to 69 cases of unauthorized admissions. The Higher Education Department deemed Dr. Nath’s actions as a serious case of malpractice, forgery, and a gross violation of the college’s admission procedures. As a result, he has been placed under immediate suspension in accordance with the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
During his suspension, Dr. Nath’s headquarters will remain in Agartala, West Tripura, and he is prohibited from leaving without prior permission from the department. The incident has raised concerns about transparency in college admissions and the responsibility of faculty members in upholding procedural integrity. An internal inquiry is expected to be conducted to further investigate the matter.
The Higher Education Department’s decisive action underscores the importance of maintaining ethical standards in academic institutions and ensuring fair and transparent admission processes for all students.
