Agartala, Tripura:
In a recent government move, dearness allowance (DA) has been increased for elected representatives across all levels in Tripura — from district councils to panchayats. While the decision aims to offer financial relief to rural and local leaders, it has sparked discontent among the state’s unemployed youth, who feel ignored and excluded from the government’s priorities.
The revised allowance will benefit public representatives across various administrative tiers, including Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis, and Gram Panchayats, providing them with a higher monthly remuneration to match inflation and rising living costs.
However, many in the unemployed and educated youth segment have voiced their frustration. With no major announcement of job creation, recruitment drives, or employment schemes, they claim that the government is prioritizing allowances for elected officials over addressing the state’s growing unemployment crisis.
Local voices on social media and youth platforms have pointed out the stark contrast between the rising benefits for political representatives and the lack of support or opportunity for the jobless population, many of whom are still waiting for competitive exam notifications and recruitment advertisements.
Several youth organizations are now calling for immediate intervention, demanding new job policies, skill development programs, and increased transparency in public sector hiring in Tripura.
As public pressure builds, all eyes are on the state government for a balanced policy that addresses both governance support and youth employment — two pillars critical for Tripura’s progress.
