The State Panchayat Resource Centre (SPRC) in Agartala recently hosted a two-day Panchayati Raj Capacity-Building Programme on September 1 and 2. The event, aimed at enhancing grassroots governance and promoting sustainable rural development in Tripura, was jointly organized by the Rural Development (Panchayat) Department of the Tripura government and the Bharat Initiative Foundation.
The programme focused on improving the knowledge, skills, and leadership of elected representatives and functionaries of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of training for elected representatives in villages. Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu also addressed the valedictory session, highlighting the significance of understanding powers and responsibilities for effective governance.
Participants engaged in technical sessions, interactive discussions, and experience-sharing exercises covering various themes such as strengthening Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) for rural economic stability, transparent budgeting for Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs), engaging youth in rural livelihoods, preserving local culture and traditions, addressing climate change through sustainable practices, and utilizing technology for transparent administration.
Shankhadeep Choudhury, CEO of Bharat Initiative, commended Tripura’s integrated approach, combining economy, society, culture, environment, and governance in a comprehensive framework. He noted that this holistic vision is expected to propel Tripura towards inclusive and sustainable rural development.
Officials anticipate that the programme will equip PRI representatives with modern administrative tools, foster participatory planning, and facilitate the faster, more transparent implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level. The focus on capacity-building and knowledge enhancement is seen as a crucial step towards strengthening local governance and promoting sustainable development in Tripura.
