AGARTALA: In a decisive step toward economic gender parity, the Government of Tripura officially launched the Tripura Women Entrepreneurship Policy (2025-2030) today. The state-level launch event, organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce, was held at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala, with an aim to foster a sustainable ecosystem for female entrepreneurs across the state.
The policy is designed to bridge the gap between informal livelihood activities and formal business enterprises, providing a structured roadmap for women to scale their ventures.
Policy Vision: From Livelihood to Formal Enterprise
The primary objective of the 2025-2030 policy is to address the systemic barriers that women entrepreneurs traditionally face. By creating a supportive “ecosystem,” the state government intends to transition women from micro-scale activities into sustainable Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Key Pillars of the New Policy:
- Financial Access: Specialized credit schemes and subsidies tailored for women-led startups.
- Market Linkages: Dedicated platforms and trade fairs to help women entrepreneurs showcase their products to a larger audience.
- Technological Integration: Training programs to bridge the digital divide, helping women adopt modern manufacturing and marketing technologies.
- Institutional Support: Streamlining the “Ease of Doing Business” for women by providing mentorship and simplified licensing processes.
Dignitaries Emphasize Sustainable Growth
The inaugural ceremony was graced by several high-ranking officials and leaders who underscored the importance of women’s participation in the state’s industrial growth.
- Smt. Santana Chakma, Minister for Industries and Commerce: In her address, she highlighted that the policy is not just a document but a commitment to making women the primary drivers of Tripura’s economy.
- Shri Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Industries and Commerce: He provided a technical overview of how the policy will be implemented at the grassroots level over the next five years.
- Shri Santosh Saha, Chairman, Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC): He discussed the potential for women entrepreneurs in the tea and agro-processing sectors.
- Senior Officials: Various directors and stakeholders from the Industries and Commerce wing were also present to mark the occasion.
Addressing the “Unorganized” Gap
A significant highlight of the policy is its focus on the informal sector. Many women in Tripura are involved in home-based businesses or small-scale handicrafts that lack formal registration. The new policy offers incentives for these women to register their businesses, enabling them to access government tenders, bank loans, and social security benefits.
”Our goal is to ensure that every woman with a business idea has the technology and capital to turn it into a reality. This policy specifically targets the lack of institutional support that has historically held back our sisters and daughters,” Minister Santana Chakma remarked during the launch.
Roadmap for 2025-2030
The Department of Industries and Commerce will soon begin a series of district-level workshops to educate aspiring entrepreneurs about the specific benefits of this policy. Applications for the first phase of institutional support are expected to open in early April.
