Tripura National Lok Adalat, scheduled to be held across Tripura on May 10, is set to address a staggering 21,410 cases across 40 benches in the state. This event, which marks the second National Lok Adalat of the year, will not only take place in the Tripura High Court but also in all district and sub-division court premises throughout the state.
Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury, the Member-Secretary of Tripura Lok Adalat, revealed that the cases to be settled encompass a wide range of matters. These include 339 motor accident compensation claims, 221 marital dispute cases, 5,457 bank loan repayment issues, and 1,000 BSNL bill payment cases. Furthermore, 14,264 conciliatory criminal dispute cases falling under various acts such as the MB Act, TP Act, TG Act, and Excise Act will be addressed. Additionally, 63 cheque bounce cases under the NI Act, 9 consumer-related cases, 48 electricity bill disputes, and 8 employment-related cases are also on the docket.
According to Chowdhury, notices have already been issued to the parties involved, and many have taken advantage of pre-conciliation or early settlement by approaching the respective offices of the District Legal Services Authority and Sub-division Legal Services Authority since May 5. Odhikar Mitra volunteers will be on hand to assist attendees of the Lok Adalat and facilitate the process.
Justice Amarnath Gaur, Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority, has issued necessary directives to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the National Lok Adalat. With over 20,000 cases set to be addressed, this event is expected to provide much-needed relief to the litigants and contribute towards reducing the backlog of cases in Tripura’s judicial system.
