Tripura Police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel conducted a successful late-night operation in Sepahijala district on September 8, seizing narcotics valued at nearly Rs 13 lakh. The joint team from Sonamura Police Station and the 81 Battalion BSF apprehended two individuals from UNC Nagar, Fakiradula—Idris Mia, aged 60, and Monura Khatun, aged 56.
During the operation, authorities discovered 100 bottles of Escuf cough syrup and 600 grams of Yaba tablets hidden in bags and a bundle at the suspects’ residence. Both Mia and Khatun confessed during preliminary questioning that the seized drugs were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, Tapas Das, stated that a case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused. They will be presented before a court for police remand as the investigation continues.
Investigators believe that this seizure may lead to more arrests, as the case appears to be connected to a larger cross-border smuggling network. The authorities are committed to cracking down on drug trafficking activities in the region to ensure the safety and security of the public.
