In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, Tripura Police successfully seized 450 kilograms of cannabis worth approximately Rs. 45 lakh and apprehended two alleged smugglers in Ambassa, Dhalai District, on Friday.
The operation was carried out based on a tip-off received by Officer-in-Charge Nandan Das of Ambassa Police Station. A police team intercepted a vehicle, suspected of carrying contraband, as it entered the Ambassa area. The vehicle, with registration number TR 03 Q 0373, was thoroughly searched, leading to the discovery of 450 kg of cannabis concealed inside.
The two individuals, identified as Prasenjit Majumder and Raju Deb, both residents of Bishramganj in Sepahijala District, were arrested on the spot. OC Nandan Das hailed the operation as a significant success in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat the narcotics trade. He emphasized that the market value of the seized cannabis is estimated at ₹45 lakh.
Following their arrest, the accused have been taken into custody at Ambassa Police Station, where a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities are conducting further investigations to unravel potential links in the smuggling network.
The seizure of such a large quantity of cannabis and the arrest of the alleged smugglers are expected to deal a major blow to the drug trafficking network in the region. This successful operation underscores the commitment of Tripura Police to curbing the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
