The Tripura Police of Sonamura Police Station made a significant drug bust on November 3, seizing 84 kg of dry ganja (cannabis) from a jungle area in Durlabnarayan, located in the Sepahijala District. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs 8.5 Lakh, was discovered abandoned in two large plastic drums.
A patrol team on routine duty in the Durlabnarayan jungle area stumbled upon the hidden drums while inspecting the vegetation. Upon closer examination, it was revealed that the drums contained a large quantity of dry ganja. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Das of Sonamura Police Station confirmed the seizure, stating that the narcotics were found unclaimed in the plastic drums.
OC Das assured that all legal formalities were followed in the seizure process and an investigation has been promptly initiated to identify the owners of the illegal ganja and dismantle the smuggling network involved. The estimated market value of the seized drugs serves as a testament to the magnitude of the operation.
The Tripura Police are committed to cracking down on drug trafficking in the region and will continue to work tirelessly to keep communities safe from the harmful effects of illegal substances.
