Tripura Police have made a significant drug bust near the Assam border, intercepting a truck carrying a massive haul of Yaba tablets valued at Rs 4 crore. The seizure took place at the Churaibari Check Post in North Tripura District, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in the region.
Acting on a tip-off, police officers stopped the vehicle as it entered Tripura and uncovered 80,000 Yaba tablets hidden in eight packets. The quick action of the authorities led to the arrest of one individual, identified as Sanjay Sahani, a 24-year-old resident of Tripura, in connection with the smuggling attempt.
North District Superintendent of Police, Avinash Rai, emphasized that this operation aligns with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s “Nasha Mukti Tripura” initiative and the directives from the Director General of Police to combat the state’s drug menace. The authorities are now intensifying their efforts to trace further links in the drug network and apprehend additional suspects involved in the illegal trade.
Drug trafficking remains a significant challenge in the northeastern region of India, and law enforcement agencies are continuously working to dismantle such networks. The latest bust underscores the commitment of Tripura Police to the state’s comprehensive anti-drug initiatives and their dedication to keeping the community safe from the harmful effects of drug abuse.
