Three elephant tusks were seized by Tripura police in a raid conducted at a house in Sonapur village, Unakoti district, on August 2. The owner of the house, Ayub Ali, managed to escape before the police arrived, and no arrests have been made so far.
According to Kailashahar Sub-divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar, the raid was conducted based on a tip-off received by the police. During the search, three elephant tusks were found in the house.
“We could not arrest the house owner as he escaped before the arrival of the police,” Karmakar told reporters.
A case has been registered, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend Ayub Ali. Wildlife authorities have confirmed that the tusks seized do not belong to adult elephants.
Assistant Wildlife Officer Subhankar Das stated, “It is not clear how Ali obtained the tusks.” He added that the forest department, along with the police, will take legal action against those involved in the illegal possession of elephant tusks.
The seizure of the tusks highlights the ongoing issue of wildlife trafficking and the importance of cracking down on those involved in such illegal activities. Authorities are working to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for the possession of elephant tusks are held accountable for their actions.
