Tripura is on track to become a leading IT and data hub in Northeast India, according to S. Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This development is supported by government initiatives and improved infrastructure in the state, which is expected to boost employment opportunities and drive regional digital growth.
During the launch of the Tripura Cyber Security Policy 2025 (TCSP 2.0) and the Tripura Cyber Security Awareness Month Campaign 2025 (TCSAM 2025) at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on November 11, Krishnan highlighted Tripura’s strategic advantages for becoming a major IT and data hub. He emphasized the state’s ideal conditions for setting up data centers, including its access to international internet connectivity through Bangladesh, stable power and water supply, and expanding infrastructure.
Krishnan noted that Tripura’s proximity to Bangladesh provides reliable international connectivity and infrastructure, positioning the state to attract Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and technology-led investments. He also praised the recently launched Cyber Bharat Setu initiative, which aims to enhance collaboration between central and state agencies to improve cybersecurity outcomes nationwide.
The Secretary commended the Tripura government for introducing a comprehensive cyber policy, describing it as a significant step towards protecting citizens from emerging online threats. MeitY’s overarching goal is to strengthen regional cyber capabilities, increase alertness, and enhance defense mechanisms to build a cyber-resilient India.
Krishnan expressed confidence that the two-day workshop associated with the campaign would raise public awareness and enhance local capacity for cyber response and resilience. At the event, he unveiled the Tripura Cyber Security Awareness Month 2025 brochure, themed “Cyber Jagrit Tripura.”
The program was attended by Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, DGP Anurag, Director of Information Technology Jeya Ragul Geshan, and senior officials from both central and state governments. With the support of government initiatives and improved infrastructure, Tripura is poised to emerge as a key player in India’s digital transformation and a major IT and data hub in the Northeast region.
