Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath laid the foundation stone on August 25 for the reconductoring of High-Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors of nine 132 kV transmission lines at Bodhjung Nagar near Agartala. This initiative is a significant step towards modernizing the state’s power sector and ensuring a more reliable power supply.
The project, which is estimated to cost ₹126.33 crore, is being implemented by Tripura Power Transmission Limited (TPTL) with financial assistance from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) through its Special Infrastructure Development Project.
During the event, Minister Nath emphasized the importance of uninterrupted power supply for the state’s development. He stated that the modernization of the power transmission system will enhance efficiency and reliability. As Tripura’s power demand is projected to increase to 700 MW by 2031-32, upgrading infrastructure is vital to meet this growing demand.
Minister Nath also highlighted the progress made in the state’s power sector since 2018. He noted that the number of 132 kV substations has increased from 12 to 20, with two more currently under construction. Additionally, the number of 33 kV substations has risen from 44 to 75. While the state currently provides an average of 23 hours of power supply, issues such as power theft, overloading, and storms can cause interruptions.
Furthermore, Minister Nath discussed the state’s efforts towards promoting renewable and sustainable energy sources. He mentioned the upcoming introduction of electric trains at Agartala Railway Station on August 27, replacing diesel-run locomotives. The state is also focusing on initiatives like PM Surya Ghar and plans to replace nine transmission lines within a year to reduce losses and improve energy efficiency.
Encouraging public participation, Minister Nath urged citizens to embrace self-reliance and adopt smart technologies such as smart meters. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing modern infrastructure while stressing the importance of individuals also taking steps towards self-sufficiency. Minister Nath concluded by urging citizens to follow the vision of Swami Vivekananda and embrace modern facilities for the state’s progress and development.
